Day 1: At first we got to try out and show the teacher what we could do in each act. There are six acts altogether: globe, mini tramp, hammock, triple trap, web, and circle trap. The first act that I tried was globe. We had to stand on a ball and do tricks. It was hard to stand on the ball by yourself, because you constantly had to waddle like a penguin. We can hop, turn around, or just waddle. I rated it a 7. I did mini tramp which was jumping on a spring board and doing jumps, flips, cartwheels, dive rolls you name it. I gave it a 5, because there was nothing special about this act. Next, we went to try out for an act called hammock. There are two silk materials that you have to hold onto and do tricks in them. I gave it a 10, because it was something new and I have never tried it before. The next act that I tried was called triple trap. It's basically a trapeze that three/four people could sit on and do tricks. I got really bored of it so, I gave it a 5. After that I tried out an act called web. Web is where there is a very long rope that you have to climb up and do tricks and it is really fun. I didn't know that that was what we were going to do for the show if you chose web, so I didn't give it a high rating. I gave it a 3. The very last act that I got to try was called circle trap. There was a big ring that you had to climb onto and do a few little tricks that they asked you to do. I didn't think it was bad or good so, I gave it a 5. Now it was time to choose what act I wanted to be in.
1st choice: Hammock
2nd choice: Globe
3rd choice: Circle Trap
What I got:
Hammock.
Day 2-9: I had act practice almost everyday after day one. We tried out a ton of tricks and by the end we decided on a few that everyone in the group could do. There were two groups in my act. Group one and two. Group one is the group with the kids ages 6-8 years old. The second group was for the kids who were 10-13 years old. The two different groups had different routines, but the routines were very similar.
Day 10 The show: We got into our costumes and it was time for the show. The theme for session was: Down on the farm. This is what each of the different acts were dressed up as: Globe: Farmers, Mini tramp: Pigs, Triple trap: Chicks and Chickens, Web: Butterflies and Dragonflies, Circle trap: Horses and Cows, Hammock…: Spiders.
I guess that many of you are wondering what our routine was so, I will be telling you what I had in my routine. I did a pull over turned myself around so that my face was facing the ceiling. I leaned back and stretched my legs up and rapped them around the hammock. I pulled myself up into a sitting position. The silk was rapped around my legs several times and it was really uncomfortable. Next, I leaned back let go with one of my hands and I placed my leg on the other side of the silk ( there was no support or anything to hold that leg up). I put my leg back in its place and held on to the fabric with both of my hands. I leaned forward let go of the the fabric with one hand. Then, I let go and did a half flip. I pulled myself back up and stood up. I rapped my right ankle around the fabric and turned to my left. I started to separate the fabric. I leaned forward pushed my left foot against the fabric behind my and straightened my arms. The position I was in sort of looked like a sail. I gripped the fabric with both of my hand unravelled my foot and started to separate the fabric again. I sat down in the fabric and left my ankles outside of the fabric. The next trick was with group one. My partner held onto my ankles and I held onto hers. The audience clapped and cheered. I let go of my partners ankles and sat up. I held my arms straight out and slid off from the hammock. I landed, got my arms out of the hammock and sat back down in my spot. One everyone was finished we went to the middle of the floor and bowed. Then, one by one we walked right off the floor.
